What is AiDENTAL? It is a collection of unique applications for learning and treatment planning, especially taylored for Removable Partial Dentures. On the learning side, it provides an interesting and beneficial dental learning environment for students. Students and instructors can create scenarios or the application can create random scenarios. The students can then compare their answers to the solution generated by the system. For example, any set of dental findings may be entered which returns answers in the form of treatment plans, summaries and/or designs.

The RPD applications offer convenient design tools as well as a game which pits the student against the computer and gives an instantaneous score. In addition to RPD design tools, we offer a digital (STL files) surveyor which automatically produces a complete framework design. There are several separate AiDENTAL applications: Surveyor, RPD Design, RPD Game, Computer Generated Treatment Planning and the (Logged In) Digital Learning Environment. The Computer Generated Treatment Planning may be used with voice commands. If your system has the Chrome browser, voice commands (as well as manual interaction) may be used for data entry, charting and treatment plan requests. If you wish to use voice, please view the Voice Commands (Voice Dropdown). Although all areas of the system should be accesible to Mobile devices, only the Computer Generated Treatment Planning has been specifically adapted to respond to small devices.

If you are not logged in (guest mode), you may enter information and use all the functionality, including creation of a PDF File. If you are not logged in, no information can be saved except for the PDF file that you generate for yourself.

The login is for students and teachers within an institution which has purchased a license.

 Licenses cost $1500-2500 depending upon the requirements of the institution 

If you registered as a teacher your view will only be from the teaching perspective. Likewise, if you registered as a student your experience will be as a student in the class

Teachers must have an institution code to register. It can be provided by calling 563-386-8300. Students must have a classcode provided by their instructor to register. Instructors must choose a subject, either TX Planning or RPD Game on first login. Students should see a class button on the landing page at login. The AiDENTAL Surveyor is made available on an as-is basis. User assumes ALL liability. The system is being made available as a beta-test.

This is a newly developed browser-based 3D system to analyze and survey digital dental models in the STL format.

Successful use of the system requires some skill and understanding. Not all files will result in usable results. Best results occur with full, clear, well-oriented models.

It is emphasized that models MUST be ORIENTED within our system. Orientation analyzes and configures the file to be compatible with our system. Although some files may not need orientation, it is advisable to go through the ORIENT step.

It is also important to manually LEVEL the occlusal plane of the model and click Save And Confirm. The saved level position is the starting point of the survey. After saving the level position, you may then tip the model in any direction as you would on a physical surveyor.

After the survey starts you will see an arch confirmation dialogue box. Please confirm the arch. Following the dialogue box, green dots should appear over or near each tooth. If the occlusal plane is not level, not all the teeth will be covered with these dots. You may need to redo the LEVEL procedure if the scan does not find the teeth.

After completeing the survey, turn the model with the mouse or use the X, Y or Z buttons to change the plane. Tooth images with undercut labels appear alongside the model and may be added, edited or removed by clicking on them. Having the correct teeth allows for the next step: Create Framework Design. Click the button below the model to view designed framework.

Models have color markings which delineate height of contour and undercut depths. Toggle between Ribbon View and Point View. You may MARK the model with Mark tool and SaveAs STL. You may also reopen the saved STL file which, when used on an AiDENTAL system will preserve the color.

Colors may be saved in standard STL files through a proprietary AiDENTAL process. Standard editors and printers will not be able to read the AiDENTAL colors unless they have the AiDENTAL cipher installed in their systems.

AiDENTAL is a joint project between David L Botsko, DMD and Ahmed Mahrous, DDS, MS, FACP, a Prosthodontist and an Associate Professor at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health. Dr. Botsko joined Dr. Mahrous to develop teaching applications for dental students. The original idea was to 'gamify' dental learning using digital applications. Although Dr. Botsko is a practicing dentist, he also has an interest in programming and application design which has become a useful combination of skills.

Currently AiDENTAL has a suite of several RPD applications and a Treatment Planning application. The digital Surveyor (browser-based) has been a dream of Dr. Mahrous for many years, and now it is becoming a reality. Currently, the AiDENTAL Surveyor application is in beta-test mode and we are seeking feedback from users.
